I just ordered this book last night. So, is he as great as everyone claims???
Oh goodness...another movie for me to stress over the casting! Who is my Jamie?? I have no idea. I don't think I would pick any of those actors for Outlander..but I can't think of anyone at the moment.
Yes, Barbara!!! I have only read the first four books in the series..but Jamie in Outlander is one of my absolute favs.
I have read all of the Outlander Novels and I named my first born son, James "Jamie" after my all time favorite character "Jamie Fraser." That and we thought his name would make a great hockey name should he ever play in the NHL! My son is now 9 and has no idea yet of his namesake!
I think the actor who plays Jamie Fraser has to be ruggedly handsome and fierce looking. I do think Gerard Butler fits that description as does Max who you've added as candidates. Actors with boyish good looks need not apply. My Jamie is worn and tough as the Scottish Highlands has made him.
I was definitely seeing Kevin Mckidd while listening to Outlander, I just didn't know his name until recently. I love this man as Owen Hunt on Greys!!
You are in for a treat Barbara, he IS as good as everyone says he is... WOW!
I just fixed the poll! Sorry!
Mandi, let me know if anyone comes to mind!
Anita, I totally GET IT now. He's sweet, but tough!
The Outlander series has to be my all time favorite...if I had to pick just one. LOL I read and interview with Diana Gabaldon once and she said that in her mind Jaime is tall and lanky, more along the lines of a runner.
I'm sure that is not going to work for Hollywood - they will probably go with a more 'hot' guy. LOL
But I wouldn't be surprised if it's an 'unknown'.
Ms. Gabaldon also said that Jamie can't just be any guy in a kilt.
Whoever they pick - he's got some big shoes to feel because Jaime Fraser is an awesome character. :)

Well, it's about time you finally started reading the books - welcome to my world! LOL!
I keep thinking it could be Gerard Butler, I believe with the right make up, hair, everything he could be a Jamie, though he's getting a bit old. I would prefer if they could get an unknown who would fit the part perfectly. He'd become an overnight sensation!
I love Max in The Unit, but I just can't picture him as Jamie.
I just got the email it was shipped!! I have to say that the sheer thickness of the book is enough to make you think twice. Yikes!! But if Jamie is THAT GOOD, I'm SOOO reading it!!
This is my Jamie! A little henna and Ray Stevenson is good to go!

You got that right Michelle!!! It will be interesting. Speaking of her site, it's wonderful. She's got a drawing of Claire, and Jamie (more of a sketch) and how her writing got started was very interesting!
I know Julie! I got Dragonfly ready! I think you're right about the unknown, that would probably work VERRA well!
Heather, That's who I picked, but now I'm thinking Rupert!
Barbara, I was put off by the size, but I'm almost done, and I don't want it to end. Imagine the roughest, toughest guy. Now imagine him having a heart of gold and poetic. Oh, That just does not do him justice!
Nomad, thanks for sharing, I think Stevenson could be thrown in for consideration!
I like several choices in the poll. I really love Gerard Butler, but I agree that he just doesn't seem to fit this character. One actor I think would work really well is Cillian Murphy, although he's not very well known. He's tall, lanky, very handsome, young, and has that vulnerability that Jaime has at the beginning of the story. Plus, Murphy is also a very good actor, and this role will need someone who's not only a pretty face, but who can also act.
I love this...I thought I was the only one who pictured Rupert Penry-Jones as Jamie. His image just popped into my head when I was first introduced to the "young injured man in the corner" or something. ;)
:P
I've also heard mention of David Wenham (Faramir in Lord of the Rings) as Jamie. I could see him over Gerard Butler...but Rupert's still my first choice.
Uh, sorry to spam you, but here's more Jamie, er Rupert :)

That's so cool. I had no idea they were thinking about making an Outlander movie. Awesome! After checking out the other pics linked by Erika325, I'd have to agree - Rupert seems to have that sexy + sweet thing going on ;o).
OMG A MOVIE! I will probably pass out watching it! I FREAKING LOVE OUTLANDER! As you read them don't get discouraged when you get to a Fiery Cross b/c its not the best and it took me a while to get through it b/c it was a book you could put down which was different b/c I couldn't with the other but WOW I love this series! I have them all but I haven't read a Breath of Snow and Ashes yet. OH and An Echo In The Bone comes out in September! *Squeal* This story moves a lot and some may not like how its progressed but I DID! :o) You MUST let me know what you think about it (YOU TOO BARBARA) b/c they are one of my all time fav couples! <3Monroe
Lisa, Murphy may be able to pull it off, but looks a little too pretty, he'd half to rough it up, I can't picture him spanking Claire!
Erika, THANKS, that site is awesome!!! No problem, I am loving this Outlander World!
After reading it, Kristi, now I am so excited!
Monroe- Thanks for the heads up on Fiery Cross! A coworker let me borrow her books, but I want my own copy! I was hoping to finish today, but we have a busy day, gotta get my butt off the computer, but will let you know soon, it's already a 5 though!
Barbara-are you flying or driving to RWA? If you're driving this would be perfect on CD, Davina Porter ROCKS as a reader!
So I have tried numerous times to read this series and I just can't get into it. However I do have to say that I will probably watch the movie and enjoy it more than the book.
I voted for other in the polls. I think that the guy that played Duncan McLeod in the Highlander T.V. show would be awesome.
