Rating: 5

Description: As the daughter of a middle-class parson Margaret Hale has enjoyed a privileged upbringing in rural southern England. When her father uproots the family to take work in the northern mill town of Milton Margaret is shocked by the dirt the noise and the gruffness of the people but she reserves her highest contempt for the charismatic mill-owner John Thornton.

Review: This BBC movie/mini-series is simply spectacular. The acting is wonderful. It has been many years since I first viewed Pride and Prejudice also done by the BBC, staring Colin Firth and I loved that movie just as much as I loved this one. I have watched Pride and Prejudice many times, and this movie, North and South joins the level that I so highly placed P&P. The movie starts off with Margaret's father uprooting their Southern family to Northern England. The movie wonderfully portrayed the difference of the North and South of England in John and Margaret, and how differently they lived. Margaret meets John and sparks fly. They are both strong in their opinions, and beliefs. They have different ways of seeing things but yet over time, they begin to appreciate one another. John's feelings are revealed before Margaret's and after this takes place, it's a little while afterwards that she thinks twice about her decision. A big misunderstand happens, in which John now thinks differently of Margaret, in turn leaves her yearning for him to think of her better. It's a satisfying ending to see these two passionate people see the truth, and become a couple! I own this DVD, however, I went to Netflix to rate and saw that you can watch it online!
